TESTIMONIALS - BRAILLE LOOM

BRAILLE LOOM
Braille Loom

I recently took Shari Zimmerman's class "Braille Literacy as Tactile Art" at Clarke High School in East Meadow.  Being introduced to Braille through art was an excellent way to learn the basics and has inspired me to research the area further.

We were able to use the Perkins Brailler to fully understand the connection to the Braille Loom. The Braille loom is a fantastic tool to learn and practice Braille and create something beautiful in the process.

Joanna Greenberg, EMHS  (art faculty)

Using the Braille Loom was an amazing learning experience for me. It allowed me to weave beautiful pieces of artwork, while teaching me how to use the Perkin’s Brailler. It was a fun and easy way to learn Braille which is something I always wanted to do. It was truly my favorite art experience throughout all of High School.

Allison T. (student, advanced crafts)

At first I didn't think it was going to be that interesting. I'm a guy and this was weaving with yarn. Come on! Guys don't typically do that kind of thing. After I tried it, I thought it was cool, and soon I was teaching the girls who had no idea about braille about what I do every day. They thought I was pretty smart because I could do this. So this is turning out into a really good experience for me and my friends. I'm glad that Mr. Shapiro provided the funds for this loom because we wouldn't have gotten it without his support.

I think this braille loom "looms" over the world because it is cool. It lets me weave braille with yarn that has different textures. That it is very special to me and I am learning to figure it out by touch. It was very nice of Mr. Mitch to give my school the money to get this loom for all of us.

Now all of my friends can learn braille too.
