Mission The mission of the Foundation for Sight & Sound is to enhance the quality of life for individuals affected by visual and/or auditory challenges of varying degrees and origins. The FSS provides grants to qualifying organizations that offer direct services or engage in research for these conditions. All donations are channeled to specific projects otherwise lacking financial support, and not to the general fund of any other organization.
The Foundation for Sight & Sound is committed to creating a world in which people with vision and hearing challenges can realize their full potential to live lives of unlimited possibilities.
The Foundation for Sight & Sound is a registered 501(C)3 corporation and all donations are deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
Values The values that guide The Foundation for Sight & Sound in its day-to-day activities toward accomplishing its mission include:
- an unwavering passion to succeed
in all that it does;
- devotion to finding a cure;
- integrity in all its actions; and
- respect and appreciation for the people
with whom it works each day.
What the Foundation Does The Foundation for Sight & Sound aims to enhance the quality of life for people with visual and/or auditory challenges through focusing its attention, energy and funding on well-defined programs that will deliver the greatest value to these individuals. To achieve this lofty goal, the foundation is committed to raising money to support worthwhile causes, educate people and inject hope into as many lives as possible.
Why Give to the Foundation for Sight & Sound? People donate their time and money to foundation because its strategy in providing grants and other funding for worthwhile causes goes much further than merely selecting qualified organizations that need its help. The Foundation's strategic approach involves a laser-sharp focus – to be highly selective and identify not just worthwhile organizations, but specifically direct funding to those projects and programs aligned with its mission to enhance the quality of life for its primary constituents. By ensuring that funds are targeted towards specific projects, rather than into organization's general funds, the foundation can make more of a difference in the lives of those individuals who most need its help.
Attitude is Everything! Another key aspect of the foundation's unique philosophy lies in the power of education and inspiration. We believe the difference for many who deal with visual and hearing challenges is in having an attitude that they can live full lives. FSS recognizes the inherent power in having such an attitude and provides educational and inspirational programs for a wide range of audiences, including affected individuals and their families, business groups, and the community-at-large.
Background
The idea for the Foundation for Sight & Sound began in March 2004 as a light bulb illuminated in the mind of Mitch Shapiro, FSS founder. After nine years of orchestrating increasingly successful fund raising events for a national organization (Foundation Fighting Blindness), Mitch realized he could do so much more. To launch his new organization, Mitch leveraged the voluminous network of supporters he had formed as the bedrock of his successful long-standing fundraising events, including the annual "Blind" Tug-A-Jet Challenge and the "Blind" Wine Tasting Gala. Now, having gained nine years of fabulous experience with a national non-profit organization, Mitch is excited to expand his efforts to an entirely new level of service and quality. |
